In this beautiful violin one immediately notices the excellent quality of the materials, which were selected not only for tonal response, but also for visual appeal.
This violin has outstanding tone that immediately qualifies it as suitable for solo work - the tone is strong, clear and rich. It is very responsive and provides a big tone without hard work. I consider it as suitable for recital and concert performance.
The one piece back is exceptionally striking, of clearly flamed well-figured maple with a distinct very broad irregular flame - very appealing. This lovely wood is also clearly featured in the ribs, neck and scroll. The top is of a very fine selection of tone spruce with an even and very straight medium to narrow grain, constant over the entire width.
The workmanship throughout is flawless, notably in the tracing of the purfling and the unusually refined mitres. The light brown oil varnish with a touch of red compliments the wood well, adding to this violin's high visual appeal. The current boxwood fittings beautifully match this. It has been lightly and tastefully antiqued, adding to the overall appeal.
This violin would suit a discerning musician seeking an instrument that allows for a high standard of performance and who seeks a responsive voice for a wide range of expression.
