This is truly an outstanding violin. Not only is it superbly made from exceptionally beautifully materials, but as with nr 1322, elsewhere on this site, it has outstanding tone that immediately identify it as essentially a solo instrument - the tone is strong, clear and rich and focussed, making it a real pleasure to play. It is highly responsive and brings very demanding passages within easy reach. Tonally it is one of the most pleasing violins I have played on in a long time and I consider it as suitable for recital and concert performance.

The one piece back is exceptionally striking, of exceptionally well-figured maple with a distinct flame and a straight, regular, narrow curl. This lovely wood is also featured in the ribs, neck and scroll. The top is of superb tone spruce with a fairly open grain constant over the entire width.

The workmanship throughout is simply flawless, notably in the tracing of the purfling and the unusually refined mitres. The oil varnish is an exquisite amber over a yellow ground, adding greatly to this violin's high visual appeal. The current ebony fittings beautifully match this.

This violin has the tonal properties of a concert instrument and would suit a discerning violinist seeking an instrument that allows for the easy execution of demanding passages and who seeks a responsive voice for expression.
