This violin is made of truly beautiful materials and manifests a very high standard of workmanship, adhering closely to the rules of high-end lutherie. It's a true pleasure to have it in hand and also to play on it.
It is extremely well-toned - responsive, with a big open sound throughout the register, into high positions. It makes playing the violin a lot easier, particularly when it comes to demanding sections from the big works. In my view it is suitable for high-end solo performance.
The one piece back is truly striking, of superb clearly flamed well-figured Balkan maple with a distinct straight narrow curl - very appealing. This same beautiful wood is also clearly featured in the ribs, neck and scroll. The top is of a very fine selection of tone spruce with an even and very straight medium to narrow grain, constant over the entire width.
The workmanship throughout is flawless, notably in the tracing of the purfling and the highly accurate and refined mitres. The reddish brown amber oil varnish adds to this violin's visual appeal, which is considerable. The current rosewood fittings compliment this beautifully. This violin has been very lightly antiqued, which adds greatly to the overall appeal.
This violin would suit a discerning musician seeking an instrument that doesn't only look very good, but also allows for a high standard of performance over a wide range of expression.
