This violin is characteristic of the high standards in violin making maintained in the German trade studios of the 1920's and 30's. It is fitted with a generic Stradivarius label and was considerably antiqued. I estimate it to have been made around 1930.
One is struck by a superb selection of materials, notably in the back and ribs. The top is of fine tone spruce with narrow to medium grain. The scroll is refined and balanced and the Fs and purfling show attention to detail.
This violin is well toned and responsive and would open doors of development for a young talented student.
