Plain black ebony frogs without any decorative eye are most strongly associated with the Hill workshop in London, but were also used by early French and German makers (18th-19th century), for whom this practice was more born from economic considerations than aesthetic. However, the Hill Company developed a very deliberate aesthetic of elegance and restraint. Their all-ebony 'black frogs' became a hallmark of some Hill bows. They did this as a stylistic statement - emphasising purity of line and letting the quality of the stick and craftsmanship speak for itself.
Simply put this bow is made of superb materials notably in the high grade pernambuco stick and manifests superb workmanship in its making.
Playing properties are truly excellent and satisfying and on a par with high-end professional master bows.
