This silver-mounted bow, stamped 'W.E.H&S', is the work of Arthur John Barnes (1888-1945), and was made in 1935 for the firm of W. E. Hill & Sons, where he was employed. His identifier the (number 5) is stamped on the silver tip facing under the hair.
This bow has excellent playing properties and although weighing only 57g, it has the feel of a bow somewhat heavier. It has excellent articulation and spiccato and has been in professional use for many years, until recently. Its fine properties would be appreciated by any discerning violinist.
