This violin is very responsive and speaks with a big tone, rich in focus and projection. It would serve very well as an advanced upgrade and would open a wide door of progress to a talented young violinist. Its exact authorship is not known, but workmanship is clearly German. It appears to have been made around 1910.
It follows the Stradivari model. The two-piece back and ribs are of good mildly figured maple with a medium curl. The neck and scroll are of more plain wood. The top is of excellent tone spruce with a very straight medium grain. The Fs are refined with attention to detail and crisp edges. The oil-based varnish is an attractive reddish-brown.
This violin has matured over the past 110 years or so.
