The excellent output of French & German trade studios during the 1920s and 30s is today already 100 years old, and one marvels at the excellent standards that were applied and maintained over that time .
This viola bears a generic Stradivarius label used in many commercial instruments from that period and shows respect for high standards in the selection of good materials. Adding to its appeal is its relatively small size (back length of 39.2 cm), which indicates that it was made with a smaller person in mind.
The two piece back, ribs, neck and scroll are of attractive, nicely-flamed maple with a medium to broad curl. The top is of excellent medium grain tone spruce. The varnish appears to be oil based and compliments the materials well. Workmanship throughout is refined and of high quality. The scroll in particular is very well balanced.
