Although unlabelled, this attractive violin is manifestly of French origin and boasts beautiful well-flamed maple in the back, ribs and scroll.

Throughout this violin manifests excellent workmanship, notably in the purfling and corner work and the elegant Fs with mildly fluted lower palettes. It is well-toned and responsive and should suit a talented young violinist very well.

Dimensions :
  Length of back: 35.6 cm

Condition :
This violin was repaired in 1910 by the important English violin maker, H. H. Saby in Cape Town (see photo). It appears that Saby repaired two cracks in the top - extremely well done and cleated.
More recently the soundpost crack on the top was repaired with an internal soundpost patch, done by Simon Hill. It can be said that the violin presently is structurally fully restored and secure and should serve trouble free for many decades to come.

Provenance :
  Withheld

Price : On request
