This violin bears a generic Stradivari label and appears to be based on the Stradivari model. It is of unknown origin, but more likely than not it was made in one of the better German studios.
Workmanship throughout is steady and tidy with attention to detail in the F's and corners. The palettes are nicely fluted. The purfling, although accurately traced, is somewhat narrow and maybe a clue to the violin's origin.
The one piece back and ribs are of the same maple with a highly irregular but distinct medium curl. The top is of good tone spruce. The varnish is of golden brown and the instrument has been slightly antiqued. The tailpiece and matching pegs are attractively carved.
This violin is responsive and well-toned and a pleasure to play on.
