Everything about this well-toned violin pleases. Choice of materials, along with refined workmanship and attention to detail make this violin an appealing instrument, representative of the high-end output of German trade studios.
The two-piece back, ribs, neck and scroll are of well-figured maple with a medium straight curl. The top is of excellent tone spruce. Purfling and particularly the mitres show refinement and attention to detail. The scroll is nicely finished and balanced and the lower palettes in the Fs are nicely fluted. The golden spirit varnish is very transparent, beautifully complimenting the wood. All of the above set this instrument apart as a serious violin of serious intent.
The bridge was cut by Dale Walton, who for many years was studio foreman to the dealership of J J van de Geest (1899-1974). The bridge is still good.
This is a deserving violin which should serve a serious musician well.
