If you prefer smaller violas, this instrument would be of interest. Its unusually small size (38 cm) makes it eminently suitable for a child or for small adults, or for those who switch regularly between viola and violin.
It is labelled as by C. A. Götz, made in 1989. General workmanship and varnish would imply trade (commercial) origins, but is nonetheless of high standard with excellent attention to detail. It's an attractive instrument. Purfling and cornerwork are superb and the Fs balanced and elegant. The choice of material is good - the two-piece back, ribs, neck and scroll are of mildly flamed maple with an even medium curl, evidently made from the same piece of wood. The top is of excellent tone spruce of very even and narrow winter growth.
This viola is in superb condition.
