This violin follows the Stainer model and although unlabelled, the name Stainer is stamped into the back, just under the neck button. It is manifestly of German commercial origin, made around 1920.
It is a well-toned violin, with power, focus and projection. It is equal to the demands of very advanced to entry-level professional work and would be highly suitable for an advanced student upgrade.
The two-piece back, ribs, neck and scroll are of very attractive maple with a distinct figure and even, medium curl. The table is of excellent tone spruce with narrow to medium grain. The varnish is light brown. Although the Fs and scroll are somewhat perfunctory, workmanship throughout is of very good quality.

Although evidently having been much used, this violin is in excellent structural condition with no cracks or repairs evident anywhere. It may have been revarnished some five or six decades ago - nicely done. It has new pegs, new tailpiece, a new bridge, a completely new setup and new Dominant strings.
