Whether this instrument was in fact made in London or was acquired from another studio on the continent, possibly German, is not known. The practice of English firms supplying and distributing instruments produced by large manufacturers on the continent was common in the early 20th century.
This violin, slightly antiqued, is a meticulous copy of Nicholas Amati, noticeable particularly in the scroll shape, the corners and the Fs. Materials are attractive and workmanship is steady and refined throughout. The varnish is an attractive light brown.
What impresses in this violin is its really beautiful clear tone. It is responsive and is easy to play.
