Although unlabelled, workmanship, choice of materials, varnish and general appearance of this viola would suggest that it was made by the German firm of Schuster & Co. in Markneukirchen, probably around 1930 or later.
The two-piece back is of medium to finely curled maple with a distinct figure. The same material is used in the ribs, neck and scroll. The latter is somewhat perfunctory, as are the F's. Purfling and cornerwork is tidy, showing an experienced and steady hand. The top is of even medium-grained tone spruce and the brown varnish shows of the materials well. It quite clearly is a commercial instrument, aimed at entry level professional players.
This is a small instrument as far as violas go. With a length of back of only 38.8 cm, it is one of the smallest violas I've encountered and is eminently suitable for a woman or a small person.
