Richard Grünke was born in Poland in 1930 and studied bow making in Germany under H.R. Pfretzschner. He also later worked with Roderich Paesold, thereby firmly establishing his credentials. He began working independently in Bubenreuth in 1975 and 1996 he founded the family business with his sons, Klaus and Thomas.

His bows are highly sought after and some of the world's foremost string players have adopted Richard Grünke's bows as their principle concert bows.

In addition to the maker's name stamped in the usual place, the bow also has the Grünke crest on the frog and has a 3 star rating. The stick is of superb pernambuco cut to the octagonal. It is impeccably straight. The ebony frog is fully mounted in silver and has a Parisian eye. The adjustor button is of solid silver. Lapping is of silver wire and the thumbpad in black leather. The tip face appears to be of ivory. This bow has outstanding playing properties which would please any demanding soloist.
