This French violin, probably made around 1900 is characterised by robust and healthy tone with power and projection. Although it is labelled and signed 'H. Denis' it is sold with a certificate of authenticity attributing it to the studios of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy.
It's an attractive instrument in very good condition. The two-piece back, ribs, neck and scroll appear to be of the same piece of mildly flamed maple with a straight narrow to medium curl. The top grain is unusually narrow. Workmanship throughout is tidy and steady.
