Sydney Yeoman was one of the foremost bow makers who worked for the firm of W.E Hill. He joined them in 1885 and initially made violin cases, but then began making bows under the guidance of William Napier. He volunteered for the war in 1914 but the experience changed him deeply. He returned shell shocked and broken. He became diabetic, lost one eye and eventually, in 1930, he took charge of less experienced bow makers in the firm.
Yeoman was a prolific bow maker and his bows are much sought after and appreciated. This bow, stamped HILL, was made in 1935 and is virtually in mint condition, still with all its original fittings. The frog being half mounted and the adjuster button of plain silver.
This bow bears Yeoman's identifier on the silver tip slide. It has truly superb playing properties, with crisp articulation and superb spiccato. It should be in the hands of a serious professional player who would appreciate its superb balance and performance.
