This bow by the master Italian bow maker, Floriano Nofri, was made in 1984 and immediately went into private collection as investment. Until now has been unused and is in mint condition - as the day it was made.
By the time of his death on 14 June 2007, Floriano Nofri had left very deep footprints, not only in Italy where he was particularly appreciated and loved, but throughout the international violin world. Although he started out as violin maker, completing some 300 violins, he began focussing on making bows in 1975, and herein found the niche which led him to global recognition and admiration as one of the foremost bowmakers to emerge from Italy. He completed some 3000 bows for all kinds of stringed instruments. Today his bows are much sought after by professional musicians because they have truly excellent playing properties.
This bow is of very fine pernambuco cut to a round stick. The silver-mounted ebony frog has a parisian eye, matched with a silver and ebony three-ring adjuster button. The lapping is of brown leather texturized to resemble lizard skin. The lapping is of silver wire and the tip facing appears to be of bone, or possibly ivory.
As with all Nofri's bows, this bow has excellent playing properties.
