As with the firms of Pfretzschner and Paesold, the Knoll studio was founded by an individual master craftsman, in this case Alfred Knoll (1909 -1980), who eventually passed away, leaving an establishment that continued producing items under the master's name, often in a range of different grades and with varying degrees of commercialism. This business plan was largely developed by the firm of W. E. Hill & Sons in the late 19th century where master craftsmen were employed to produce bows bearing the firm's name.

Bows stamped 'Alfred Knoll' come in a very wide range of models ranging from basic student bows to extremely good professional quality bows of a very high order. They are however in the overwhelming majority of cases part of the trade output of the Knoll studio in Germany and it is very rare to find the personal work of Alfred Knoll made during his lifetime (one of which I was fornunate enough to own and stupid enough to sell).

This used bow probably dates from around 1995, is of good quality and is in excellent condition with really nice playing properties.
