This is a well-toned instrument, which can be described as sonorous, responsive and easy to play on. The tone is balanced with good carrying power and penetration. It is also visually very pleasing.
It is one of a group of 7 instruments that were commissioned by this dealership with the objective of good tonal properties, visual appeal and affordability. The result is an amalgam of superb workmanship and a fine choice of materials resulting in excellent tonal properties which competes with the best output of some leading master instrument builders.
The back and sides are of well-flamed maple with a distinct and interesting curl that truly appeals. The two-piece back is unusually attractive. The top is of medium to finely grained tone spruce. The neck and scroll are of broader flame. The red-brown oil varnish beautifully compliments the wood. Purfling and corner work is superb with some of the finest mitres I have seen in a long time (see photos).
This cello convinces as a serious instrument that conforms to all the qualities one would expect from a professional cello.
