Garner Wilson (1944 - 2013) was a foremost English bow maker who began working for the firm of W.E. Hill & Sons at the age of 16. He was trained by Arthur Bultitude and William Watson and also received guidance from William Retford. After leaving the firm in 1966 he established his own studio in 1969, but eventually settled in Dingwall in Scotland in 1989 where he remained till his death.
This gold-mounted violin bow is a supreme example of Garner Wilson's work. The ebony nut bears Wilson's characteristic double ring (a ring within a ring) in the flanks. As with all Wilson's bows after he left Hill, it is stamped 'Garner Wilson'.
This bow has the outstanding playing properties one would expect from a gold-mounted bow.
