This beautiful cello is made of very attractive materials. The tone is strong with a lot of carrying power and penetration. The response is easy and open, requiring very little effort - all qualities associated with a good solo instrument.

In selecting this instrument, the objective was an instrument with good soloistic properties. The result is an amalgam of very good workmanship and an excellent choice of materials resulting in very pleasing tonal properties which competes with the output of some leading master instrument builders.

The two-piece back and sides are of excellent maple with a distinct and appealing fine straight curl. The top is of medium to finely grained tone spruce of very high quality. The red-brown varnish over a yellow ground is of French origin and beautifully compliments the wood. Purfling and cornerwork are superb.

This cello is new, but has been slightly 'antiqued' to look older and worn than it actually is. Today such antiquing is no longer regarded as trickery or deceit, but is acceptable and very much the norm in standard lutherie. Antiquing has also become an anticipated or required technique in many of the world's important international violin making competitions and trade fairs.

This cello convinces as a serious instrument that conforms to all the qualities one would expect from a professional cello.
