Everything about this beautiful child violin speaks of the highest standards, not only in the superb selection of woods but also in impeccable workmanship. It is fitted with a generic Amati label, but exact origin remains unknown. A safe estimate is that it was made around 1930, probably in Mirecourt.
The two-piece back, sides, neck and scroll appear to be of the same piece of maple with a distinct and attractive flame and straight narrow curl. The top is of excellent medium-grained tone spruce. The corners, purfling and scroll show a steady hand and are very well-executed. It has a repair label from 1981, probably referring a repair done to a minor crack below the treble F hole. This is secure and leaves the violin in excellent condition.
This violin is very well-toned.
