This cello is characterised by a responsive tone - even throughout and speaking with openness - easy to play on. The materials are well chosen - a beautiful two-piece back and sides of well-figured Asian maple with a distinct figure of medium curl. Workmanship is good throughout - tidy work in the corners and the purfling neatly traced. The cello is varnished by hand in an attractive reddish brown over a yellow ground. It was made around 2010 and is in excellent condition.
This instrument represents the top-end trade fare that is increasingly establishing itself in the international arena where good workmanship, very good tone and fine materials meet in a satisfying, responsive and above all, affordable, instrument. Such instruments compete with the best output of some leading European workshops, providing an accessible alternative to the expensive fine handmade instruments produced in some of the leading Western studios.
