This violin is characterised by excellent tone - even throughout and speaking with clarity, openness and responsiveness - easy to play on and certainly a violinist's violin. All who tried this violin were impressed by its properties, which are equal to the demands of very advanced literature, such as the romantic concertos and other solo work.

It has looks to match the excellent tone - the materials are well chosen - a beautiful one-piece back and sides of well-figured maple with a medium curl. The top is of really good tone spruce with a fine narrow grain. Workmanship is excellent throughout - tidy work in the corners and purfling neatly traced. Varnish is a beautiful ruby wine-red colour over a yellow ground.

This violin is new, but has been artificially "antiqued" to look slightly older and worn than it actually is. Today such antiquing is no longer regarded as trickery or deceit, but is perfectly acceptable and very much the norm in lutherie. In some international violinmaking competitions antiquing is an anticipated finish for which points are allocated.

This violin passes with conviction as a serious instrument that conforms to all the requirements one may have for a professional instrument.
